Adele Made Of Melted Candles

In her song ‘Set Fire to the Rain’, Adele sings about the pain of a lost relationship. Rain could be a metaphor for the tears she cried, and she is setting them on fire in an attempt to burn and destroy her pain.

In my portrait of Adele, I used blue candles to represent tears, and by setting fire to them, they melt and flow into each other, forming her portrait. This project took about 2 weeks to plan out. I spent about a week looking for the right materials and another week figuring out how to use hot candle wax as my ‘paint’. The piece itself took about 7 hours to complete, for which I used around 1500 candles!
